When asking for ideas as to which discussion threads you the community would like to see added to the Wiki, this was one response:
Charlotte: I would like more explanation and examples of how to design vineyards. Secrets to laying stone and dirt paths, re-purposing of items to create various landscapes. Also photos of these. There are some beautiful and elaborate vineyards here.
I don't know of an existing thread on this topic so I am starting one.
Please post here your hints and tips for design and landscaping the vineyards. If you have photos as examples, please post the links to those as well.
Thanks!

Edith Van de Wiel Somebody learned me a trick today: buy a birdbath, turn it around.. and it becomes a fountain! By turning back you can make it a birdbath again. Cool, no? Grtz from Antwerp, Belgium

Katheryn Gilbride Tip of the Day:
To create a stair step: you can stagger the wooden benches or the stone fencing to create a "stair" effect.
Billene has a nice example of this effect with the stairs leading toward her Big house. To view her vineyard you can go to:
http://myvineyard.wikidot.com/tour
And Billene's Vineyard is the first tab.

Jan Winning Well I am a sucker for 3-D affects…(a graduate of Farmville and Farmtown)..
you can make staircases out of stone walls turned vertically and placed slightly off center to each other…the same with the wooden benches done horizontally. The wooden x-fence can be placed one under each other to create height…and I have also used is horizontally placed slightly successively lower along a patio to create a feeling of walking downhill…
Also I visit constantly…..getting ideas and seeing what works for me…

Gayle Harrison I used the wooden benches together with the stone walls to make steps, I have tried to create different levels and tried to use the poplar trees to give the illusion of height. I also tried to keep hard landscaping to a minimum using trees to give a more natural effect.
Wooden benches placed side by side make good tables and the bistro chairs fit exactly underneath them, I can even make my avatar sit in a chair with legs under the table!

Charlotte, you are very welcome. As you can see, it was a great idea. And I didn't mind starting it. I hope it helps; it seems to be off to a great start!
I have been able to create the effect of a sort of valley by leaving some of the original background "hills" left by partially clearing the land starting in the center and working out to my left. So the left side looks slightly elevated. I tried to enhance that by making rows of trees on the left slope downward and also with a fence (made out of stone walls, stepping down) that looks like it is coming down a hillside. Then on the right side of the "valley" I put steps up to my house using the stone walls in a different way than the wall on the left "hill". Here they are intended to look like actual steps coming up from the tasting area. So then that side looks elevated to the right. My rows of grapes in the center look (to me anyway) like they are in a slight valley.
The stream "running down" helps with the effect as well I think.

The stone wall looks great Dee! I don't have a formal vineyard at all so they'd be too much for my place, but suits yours just fine. I saw someone use the metal fencing and it looks more like lattice work…but again too fancy. Mine's an eco friendly, organic vineyard so I'm using as little metal as possible.

Christine Miller I used the dark green grass as moss along the edges of the stream. Then used those small rocks…the one that are just 2…and set them close together to it does not look like rows and rows or rocks which does not look natural. I am still tweeking it but it is starting to look better. I would like to see smaller size squares (1/4 size maybe) that we can use to try and take off some of these sharp corners when we lay down grass or even dirt.
I am having trouble getting the right link. Be a sec. I have had this problem before. No matter how many times I copy and paste my own link it takes me to someone elses. I will post my vineyard as soon as it will let me.

Not sure where to add this info. If someone fertilizes an empty plot and then you plant afterward…the grapes don't get fertilized. The grapes have to be planted first and then fertilized. And you definitely get more XP for fertilized grapes.

http://myvineyard.wikidot.com/tour
The above link has many examples of the "stairing" effect.
For instance Billene's Valley Vineyard has a stair effect to the right leading up to her big house.
You can use stone walls or wooden benches
Let's say you are using benches
1. Place your first bench
2. Directly behind that place another bench…directly behind causes it to look like a wooden type of table or something of that nature.
3. But if you put the bench behind the first one slightly to the left or slight to the right
of the first bench…you start to create the stair step effect.
You can play with this optical illusion effect…it takes a bit of practice but once you get the basic concept down you get the picture.
To curve a bridge you use the same above basic concept except you would create two or three stone fence walls close together and with the third or fourth one you would start moving it more to the left or right depending on the direction you want to go in.
This might not be the best way to describe the process…but I hope it helps you nonetheless.

Well, I am so glad this thread got bumped! I just spent the morning enhancing my Wedding / Honeymoon Area. Please visit and see what I've done.
I used to consider the Guest House to be a separate thing aside from the Wedding Area because I had it first and then they came out with the Gazebo. So I made the Chapel Area. Today it occurred to me to fix up the Guest House a bit more and make it an intimate place the Wedded couple could use for their Honeymoon! So I fixed it up for them. Let me know what you think!

Tatty Mischief-Gibson some lovely places here!!! the art if illusion is difficult at the best of time, i had practice on another game .. farm town, and come up with a lovely water feature .. unfortunately the water on here costs real money, and is not moveable, if you make a mistake, its a costly one! but with the right idea, you can make a little water look massive. i did also make a maze on that game … looked great, difficult to do on here because there is no small hedges.
i usually have the 'vision' of the end result in my head before i do anything, its something i worked with for interior design when i was able to work, i know exactly how it will look when finished lol
also another thing is, imagination, if you can make a story in your head with what feature you are working on with me it makes it easier too .. my friends think i am nuts when i start talking about 'the little' people' but that is how i see walking round my place that i am making hehehe i have to 'see' them being able to get around, if you know what i mean.
a couple of people gave me lovely compliments, but my vineyard is still very much 'work in progress' although i have put down what i can now work on, i have only been doing this game 1 week today! :O .. so i hope you will enjoy coming for a walk round mine .. but, i always say, to get the real affect, you need to go full screen, and zoom out, that way you see more in one go.

Kimberly Guneken-Cope very nice Tatty! I'm new to the game - can u move the plots once they are put down - or the tiles?
May 23 at 2:07pm · Report
Tatty Mischief-Gibson noo, this is why you have to be careful, anything that has to be laid on the ground for ground, is not moveable …
thank you!! i am still no where near finished as you can see, the 'back' road lol wihich is south i am still doing it slowly ..

Kimberly Guneken-Cope dang! I have a hard time visuals until i see it in place LOL…thanks Look forward to see what else u come up with :)
May 23 at 2:12pm · Report
Katheryn Gilbride @ Kimberly…you can "remove" the Vine "plots" for planting your grapes by deleting them and then relaying them. Unfortunately as Tatty stated it cost coinage. To "remove" let's say a dirt path you made you have to lay grass on top of it, costing coinage. But Tatty is correct…once laid there it is unless you lay something else over it.

@ Kimberly, i know some people do not 'see' what they want, until as you say its in place, i am lucky that i do, but maybe you can have a go of thinking of stories with what you want to make?? i wont laugh … promise *puts hands over mouth* … no really that may work for you?

Tatty Mischief-Gibson @ Gayle .. Lovely!! i know what you mean about trying to combine the flowers with trees .. 'tis difficult as they get lost in the tree lol but very effective on yours!!
@ Katheryn yes i know what you mean, i am seeing mine as mainly a working vineyard, with parts for the 'tourists and tasters' so, the north west (left) there is cottages that house the barrels, and one barrel sits outside each so they know what they are drinking hahaha and what to choose .. lol you can sit outside on a nice day, and in the house which is a restaurant if the weather is iffy :D
@ Billene, thank you, i know people are having problems round my edges .. sometimes its ok, other times even i cannot get neat them :(

You have a very lovely and bucolic Vineyard setting! I just adore that Courtyard you built!
suggestion:
Add maybe some seating area like benches for people to sit down by the 4 olive trees to your top left corner. You have nice "steps" leading up to the area. I thought to myself hmmm if I was really touring your Vineyard now would be a good time to sit down.

Yes it is more than a game. I haven't seen a new game take off quite like this one and everyone plays it differently. There is the technical aspect of combining varietals and discovering "secret blends" crossed with decorating with natural looking foliage.

Melissa Coberly Hi all! I love My Vineyard even though I really have not gotten very far but, I am working on it =o) Someone asked how to clear the trees from around the vineyard. I tried to by the terrior but, I do not have enough neighbors and I have tried inviting them but, have been unsuccessful. Those of us who do not have enough neighbors, is there a way to clear the trees or do we need to wait until we have more neighbors? Any help is appreciated.

Lauren Sauvé This is my vineyard. I'm trying to keep it as natural as possible. I also think of a story so what I do makes sense. Mine is a small private vineyard where people can come for a retreat and I have an area where wine seminars can be held. And Susan, personally I don't like the villas. I wish we could have the same vines that are on the pop ups available to trail on the wooden arches. Maybe one day.

Lauren Sauvé People were complaining about the items they got in the mystery boxes. Everyone wants a pool and can't think of other uses for the items they got. I've had duplicates of everything. One person wanted to know what to do with the 3 fancy fountains. I turned them into a waterfall using a tip from someone else on this thread about using the birdbaths for water.
@Melanie…you have to buy the Mystery Boxes. That's one of the items you can get. The items are assigned randomly so you may not get what you want. It's gambling. How many WC are you willing to spend to see if you get the pool? It's up to you.
